Session by Prof. Kiran Limaye

The lecture was conducted to the Chicago Business School students on ‘Economy of Mumbai’ on March 17, 2017 by Prof. Kiran Limaye.

A course on ‘Visual Analytics’ in association with SAS:

A 32 hour course on Visual Analytics has been offered to M.Sc. T.Y. & S.Y. B.Sc. Economics students. After the course the students can take the SAS International Certification Exam.

GST – Session on October 13, 2016

Students of S.Y. and F.Y. B.Sc. Economics attended a half day seminar on October 13, 2016 organized by NMIMS’ School of Business Management.

Shastrarth – 2016 an Inter-collegiate Debate Competition

Shastrarth, the annual inter collegiate debate competition of NMIMS's Sarla Anil Modi school of Economics was held on 21 September 2016 in Juhu Jagruti Hall and Mithibai Seminar Hall, NMIMS campus. 62 teams participated from all over India. 16 teams qualified for the semifinals and out of which two qualified for the finals.

We had an esteemed panel of judges were Mr. Akash Yadav, Mr. Ashish Saraf, Mr. Aurag Mehrotra, Ms. Pritika Hegde, renowned personalities in the spheres of education, public speaking, marketing and economics.

The semi-finals was an impromptu round with topics such as ‘The legitimacy of hactivism’, The burden of refugees on the State, The legal liability of credit rating agencies for their inaccuracy, and The role of revolutions in the creation of democracies. The judges for this round were Dr. Radhika Lobo, Head of Department of Business Economics and Professor-in-charge of International Programmes at Birla College of Arts, Science and Commerce and Mr. Rohit Arora, the founder of TransGanization of School of Thought.

The topic of the finals was "This house believes that the ‘Make in India’ initiative will enable India to become the next manufacturing hub of the world" The judges for the final round were Ms. Dolly Jha, Exective Director of Marketing at the Nielsen Company, Ms. Anju Kurien, The Talent Director at Omnicom Media Group and Mr. Kamlesh Dangi, Group President – HR at UTI Mutual Fund.

The winners of the shastrath 2016 were the team from School of Business Management NMIMS. The runners up trophy went to a non-contingent team comprising of participant from Jai Hind College and HR college of Commerce and Economics.

The best speaker award was won by Jai Goradia from Jai Hind College.

This event was the flagship event of the Debate Society of SAMSOE whose faculty in-charge were Dr. Rohit Muraleedharan and Dr. Esha Khanna. Rajshree Ganeriwal, Mitul Gupta and Nishi Desai were the conveners and were instrumental in the planning and structuring of the event. Ayan Sarkar, Yash Padegaonkar and Saru Pruthi, as co-conveners also played crucial roles in organization of the event. Vidit Dugar and Satvik Chandna, members of Debate Society moderated the semi – finals and finals. Anindo Ghosh, Praneet Jaswani, Gazal Garg and Gokul Pisharody took part in the event, representing the college.

Participation in Numero UNO, Mathematics and Statistics Fest at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, 2-3 September, 2016

Thirty five students from SAMSOE participated in this intercollegiate fest over two days. Shazz Lalwani and Akshat Nagori won the gold medal in the event Master Numero. They also secured 2nd position C.H.A.O.S., a logic, risk and trading event. Students also reached the finals rounds of other events such as Classic quiz and Mind it.

Orientation Programme F.Y. B.Sc. Economics Batch 2016-19

Inaugural Session - July 15, 2016

  • The programme consisted of an inaugural session at Santokba Hall. Students were addressed by the Associate Dean Prof. Amita Vaidya, gave the students as well as the parents an insight into the working of the School of Economics. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rajan Saxena, Dr. Debasis Sanyal, Mr. Shalin Divatia, Mentor Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics. The Registrar Dr. Meena Chintamaneni spoke to them about the University rules and regulations. The Second and Third Year B. Sc. Economics students also shared their experiences at the School with the F.Y. B. Sc. Economics students. It was followed by an interactive session of the parents and the students with the faculty.

Second Session July 15, 2016

  • The Session consisted of a Library Orientation, conducted by Ms. Madhvi Tipnis, Assistant Librarian. And the counselling session by Ms. Meeta Shah, Psychologist and Counselor.

Third Session July 16, 2016

  • As a part of orientation programme a Workshop on "Addiction” was conducted by Dr. Harish Shetty.
  • The Orientation was continued with an ice-breaker session by the students of S.Y. and T.Y. B.Sc. Economics.
  • A Workshop on "Assertiveness & Conflict Resolution” was conducted by Dr. Abdul Rashid.

  • A brief session on Factorization, Blackboard Usage & Library Database was conducted for the F.Y. B.Sc. Economics

Orientation Programme S.Y. & T.Y. B.Sc. Economics

  • An orientation Programme was organized for the S.Y. & T.Y. B.Sc. Economics students on 11 July, 2016 at Juhu Jagruti Hall. Students were addressed by, the Associate Dean Prof. Amita Vaidya. She explained about the few changes in the courses for S.Y. B.Sc. Economics.

  • The programme consisted of an inaugural session at Juhu Jagruti Hall. Students were addressed by, The Associate Dean Prof. Amita Vaidya, gave the students as well as the parents an insight into the working of the School of Economics. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rajan Saxena, Mr. Shalin Divatia, Mentor Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics all addressed the students encouraging them to take on the next two years as a journey of personal growth.The Registrar Dr. Meena Chintamaneni spoke to them about the University rules and regulations. It was followed by an interactive session of the parents and the students with the faculty.

The Foundation courses were conducted for the M.Sc. Economics.
