About the program

The two-year dual degree program offers a unique opportunity to get a deep understanding of economics while simultaneously improving your analytical skills. The students would spend one year at the NMIMS Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics before transferring to Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA.
This program is intended to match the industry's new-age expectations in fields such as big data Economics, computational finance, business forecasting, and behavioural economics. After successfully completing both years, the student will get two degrees: M.Sc. Economics from NMIMS and M.A. Economics from Virginia Tech University. Program Objectives

Program Details

First year at NMIMS
  • Foundation courses such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics and International Economics
  • Total of 40 credits (8 courses + Research, 5 per Semester)
Second year at VT
  • Minimum of 18 credits (6 courses, three per semester) at VT
  • Option to choose from list of graduate courses (course numbers that begin with either 5000 or 6000). A maximum of two courses can be drawn from the list of upper-level undergraduate courses (Course numbers that begin with 4000)

Program Highlights

  • After the successful completion of both the years, the student will get 2 degrees, M.Sc. Economics from NMIMS & M.A. Economics from Virginia Tech
  • The courses are targeted to cater to the new age demands of the industry such as Big Data Economics, Behavioral Economics & Experimental Economics
  • The focus will be on experiential and skill-based learning to prepare students for the rapidly evolving modern economy.
  • The M.A. program in Economics at Virginia Tech has the distinction of being housed in the College of Science. It is anticipated that like the PhD program at Virginia Tech, this program will be certified as a STEM program providing students with an Optional practical training of 3 years.
