Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics conducted two Summer Schools
7th Annual Economics Conference
The seventh Annual Economics Conference organized by Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (SAMSOE), SVKM’s NMIMS, Mumbai in collaboration with The Indian Econometric Society (TIES) was held on 6th April, 2024 at SAMSOE, 3rd Floor, NMIMS Mumbai. The theme for the conference was ‘Shaping the Future: India's Sustainable Strategies for 2030’. The inaugural session commenced with Saraswati Vandana, lighting of lamps (diya) and the welcome address by Prof. Amita Vaidya, Director, SAMSOE followed by address by Dr Meena Chintamaneni, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS. The Keynote address was given by the chief guest, Dr. Dharmakriti Joshi, Chief Economist, CRISIL, on "Running a Sustainable Growth Marathon”. Dr. S. Chandrasekhar, Professor at IGIDR, Mumbai, gave a very interesting conference talk on "Indian Economic Growth: Overcoming the Headwinds”. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Imran Khan, SAMSOE, NMIMS, Mumbai.
The inaugural session was followed by three parallel technical sessions – two conference sessions for Ph.D. scholars and faculties, and one research colloquium for undergraduate and post-graduate students. The conference sessions were chaired by Dr. Mainak Majumdar, IIM, Mumbai, and Dr. Sagnik Bagchi, SBM, NMIMS, Mumbai, whereas the research colloquium was chaired by Dr. Niladri Sekhar Bagchi, SAMSOE, NMIMS, Mumbai.
Eight papers selected out of eighteen papers were presented in the conference and five selected out of eleven papers in the research colloquium. The valedictory session concluded successfully with announcing the winners of the best papers and distributing certificates of participation to the presenters. The paper titled "Non-Farm Income and Environmental Efficiency of the farmers: Evidence from India” by Anviksha Drall, Assistant Professor, T A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka won the Best Paper Award in the conference category that carried a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 10000. The paper titled "Domestic Violence Against Women in India and The Extent of Under-Reporting of Cases” by Ms. Preksha Kabra, B.Sc. (Economics), SAMSOE, NMIMS, Mumbai was adjudged the Best Paper under the research colloquium category which carried a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 5000.

Orientation 2023
The programme consisted of an inaugural session at Mukesh Patel Auditorium. Students were addressed by Shri. Shalin Divatia, Joint Secretary, SVKM & Mentor of NMIMS University. Prof. Amita Vaidya, Director, Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, addressed the students and the parents an insight into the working of the School. Prof. Nahid Fatema, Program Chair of B.Sc. Economics and Dr. Kiram Limaye, Program Chair of M.Sc. Economics, addressed students on the program details. The Second Year B. Sc. Economics students also shared their experiences at the School with the F.Y. B. Sc. Economics students.
