Kannan Rahul Agrawal student of S.Y. B.Sc. Economics, Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics has won the gold medal for Tabla in the Instrumental Category at the 13th International Cultural Olympiad for Performing Arts, held on September 14, 2024, in Paris, France. The event was organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh under the patronage of UNESCO. Kannan, completed Visharad at age 16. He is a student of Nawaz Shri Tarun Lala.
View GalleryShastrarth, the annual intercollegiate debate festival hosted by Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (SAMSOE), took place on October 4, 2024, marking its 14th edition. Organized by the undergraduate wing of SAMSOE, the event attracted participants from across India. Structured in three rounds—preliminaries, semifinals, and finals—the debates followed the Modified Oxford format. The semi-final debates were judged by industry experts, including Swati Deshpande of The Times of India and Dr. Ramakant Sharma from the RBI. The finalists, Ameya Dixit and Drishti Desai, and Abhishek Patra and Vihaan Purohit, debated the motion on the relationship between freedom and institutional authority. After a closely contested final, Abhishek Patra and Vihaan Purohit were declared the winners. The event concluded with a prize ceremony, closing remarks from the judges, and a vote of thanks, marking a successful end to Shastrarth 2024.
1. On September 27, 2024, The Literary Club of Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (NMIMS) organized a screening of the documentary "While We Watched," directed by Vinay Shukla. The event, supervised by Professors Sneha Thayyil and Pallavi Gupta, aimed to highlight significant transitions in Indian journalism and encourage healthy discussion. After screening the documentary, two research papers were shared to deepen students' understanding of media, journalism, and press freedom. A vibrant discussion followed, covering topics such as the evolution of journalism, the importance of on-ground reporting, and debates around morality, objectivity, and subjectivity in the media. The session provided attendees with valuable insights into the complexities of journalistic freedom.
On January 6,2024, Samvedana collaborated with Carter Clean-Up to organize a beach clean-up from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Carter Road Beach. After a brief introduction, the volunteers were provided with gloves and trash bags to assist them as they set on to clean the beach. As they moved along the shoreline, the collected waste, including plastic debris, wrappers, pieces of glass, bottle lids, and wooden pieces, gradually changed the appearance of the beach. After clearing the beach the volunteers moved to nearby mangroves to clear the waste there, changing the appearance of the mangroves as well.
On 27th July, 2024 Samvedana, the social service club of Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, NMIMS, Mumbai, with the help of the student council, collected gently used, pre loved, textbooks and novels from fellow students and sold them on campus at subsidized rates to gather funds for purchase of Schoolbooks for underprivileged students. The books were donated on 25th & 26th March, followed by their sale via four volunteers from Samvedana and the student council. The volunteers sought their peers and provided suggestions on which of the books would interest the customers, while cataloguing books that were sold and accepting more book donations.
1. On August 17, 2024, Samvedana and Carter Clean-Up organized a beach cleanup at Carter Road Beach, Mumbai. The event aimed to reduce plastic waste, protect mangrove ecosystems, and encourage environmental responsibility. Over 10 students from the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (NMIMS) participated, collecting debris along the shoreline and in mangrove areas. Waste was sent for recycling. The cleanup resulted in a visibly cleaner beach, with positive feedback from the local community.
On 11th August, 2024, composting workshop was held opposite Kabara Aurum Apartments- Plot number 58/484, Unnat Nagar in Goregaon. Organised by Samvedana, the social service club of SAMSOE. Nine students from the core committee attended the event. Dr. Jane Smith, who is an expert in sustainable agriculture, led the session, which included a presentation on composting fundamentals, hands-on activities for setting up compost bins, and practical troubleshooting tips. The workshop successfully equipped students with practical composting skills and encouraged environmental stewardship. Each participant received a certificate of achievement and a starter composting kit. This event was highlighted in the university’s environmental impact report for its contribution to sustainability.
2. Samvedana, the Social Service Club of Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, NMIMS, celebrated Raksha Bandhan on August 17, 2024, with underprivileged children at the Umang Learning Center in Mumbai. The event featured fun activities designed to bring joy and foster a sense of love and togetherness, particularly for those away from their families.

On October 8, 2024, Samvedana, the social service club of Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (NMIMS), organized a sapling plantation drive in collaboration with the Hariyali organization at Mulund East. The event aimed to promote environmental sustainability and community involvement. Five students participated, planting 55 mango saplings alongside members of Hariyali, an organization focused on afforestation and waste management. The drive provided students with hands-on experience in ecological conservation, fostering a sense of social responsibility and awareness about the long-term benefits of afforestation efforts.
On 16th October, 2024 Samvedana organized beach clean-up in collaboration between Carter Clean-Up. More than 15 students from SAMSOE volunteered for the initiative. The students were given a brief introduction about the initiative and were also provided with gloves and trash bags, which aided them during the activities. The activities included picking up litter and waste along the shoreline and also the mangroves at Carter Road Beach. We also had a special guest present with us for this clean-up, Dia Mirza. Dia Mirza is a prominent Indian actress and environmental activist. She champions sustainable practices and raises awareness about reducing plastic waste through initiatives, campaigns, and her influential presence in the media. Students got a chance to interact with her and tell her about Samvedana and its initiatives to help the environment.
On 09th November, 2024 Blood Donation Drive was organized by students of Samvedana. The purpose of the drive was to contribute to the health and well-being of countless individuals that need blood donations to survive and recover from accidents and several other procedures. Through this drive, we hoped to have a profound impact on their lives and leave behind a lasting impact on the community. There was 87 people whose eligibility was checked. Out of 87, 62 were found fit and they contributed to the blood collection.
On 18th December, 2024 students of Samvedana organized Secret Santa. The objective was to bring in holiday vibes, spreading joy and Christmas spirit to students who are away from family and to share some laughs while unwrapping surprises!
On 18th December, 2024 Students of students of Samvedana visited Pepper Cook Seva Foundation to cook food to donate. The objective of the event was to cook food for the underprivileged to donate and help out the underprivileged by cooking at the Pepper Cook Seva Foundation in order to feed them.
1. Bass-a-Nova, the Music Club of Junoon at Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, NMIMS, held its first jam session of the year on August 13, 2024. The event introduced first-year students to the club and featured live performances and audience song requests. The session was a success, with an enjoyable atmosphere that generated excitement among attendees.
2. On August 14, 2024, the Dance Club "8 Counts" of Junoon, the cultural society at Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, NMIMS, conducted an introductory dance workshop. The session featured choreography to the song "9:45,†led by Dance HoD Ishanya Ahuja and Sub-HoD Arushi Singh. The event successfully engaged first-year students and promoted the dance club.
3. The dance club, 8 Counts, of Junoon, the cultural society of Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, performed in the atrium on the occasion of Navratri on 10 October 2024 at 12:30 P.M. after a week of practice sessions. The club also organized Traditional day on the same occasion.
4. Junoon, the cultural society of Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, celebrated Christmas in the third floor corridor on 21st December 2024 at 12:30 P.M. The celebration included singing Christmas carols and distribution of chocolates by Santa.

The cards, adorned with colorful designs and heartfelt messages, were a testament to the creativity and thoughtfulness of the club members. Friendship Day at ELCITY was a heartwarming celebration of camaraderie and affection. The event was filled with laughter, love, and a sense of belonging.
2. ELCITY Club at Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, NMIMS, held an ‘ice breaker’ session on August 21, 2024. The session aimed to introduce new committee members and build team spirit. Members participated in introductions and interactive games, which helped create a sense of camaraderie and enthusiasm for future club activities.
3. On August 19, 2024, the ELCITY Club at Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics, NMIMS, celebrated Raksha Bandhan by inviting students to share photos with loved ones. The photos were turned into personalized collages using a Rakhi-themed template. The initiative was well-received, bringing joy to participants and reinforcing the power of small gestures to create lasting memories.
4. On 1st September, we the members of ELCITY had the opportunity to visit the Bharat Van, a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and welfare of underprivileged children. The visit was centered around a dual-themed origami workshop where the children were guided in making two special creations: an origami Lord Ganesha for Ganesh Chaturthi and a Teacher’s Day card. The workshop aimed to blend cultural education with creative expression, providing a meaningful experience for the children.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome by the NGO staff and a brief discussion about the significance of the upcoming celebrations—Ganesh Chaturthi and Teacher’s Day. The children were eager to participate, with some already familiar with these cultural events, while others were excited to learn more.
5. The fine arts club, ELCITY successfully celebrated Teacher's Day on 05th September, 2024 with a series of heartwarming and engaging activities. The event aimed to express gratitude and appreciation for the invaluable contributions of our teachers to the educational growth and development of our students.
6. SAMSOE’s Art Club, ELCITY, transformed the Mithibai campus (Gates 2-3) into a vibrant carnival with ELYSIUM 2024 on 16th December, 2024: Comic Art-Cade, an unparalleled celebration of creativity and togetherness. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as students immersed themselves in a variety of activities, showcasing their artistic flair and testing their luck.
From face painting that turned participants into living works of art to hair-braiding stalls adding a touch of style, creativity flowed freely. Thumb-printing and sticker stalls offered unique keepsakes, while a life-sized Jenga game brought laughter and tested steady hands.
For the competitive spirits, games like darts, blackjack, roulette, and 7 Up 7 Down provided a perfect stage to showcase their skills. The photobooth remained a crowd favorite, capturing memories with endless selfies, playful poses, and cheerful group shots.
The food stalls were another highlight, filling the air with irresistible aromas. From Domino’s Pizza and crispy corn dogs to spicy chaat and juicy momos, there was something for every palate. For dessert lovers, chocolate-dipped strawberries and colorful golas were a delightful treat.
1. On August 20 2024, the SAMSOE Consulting Club hosted a speaker session with Mr. Sudhir Shinde, Senior Technical Consultant at TCS. Around 30 students participated, discussing real-life operational efficiency cases and learning about industry approaches. Mr Shinde shared career insights, highlighting key consulting skills. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A.

On September 04, 2024 The SAMSOE Consulting Club’s management consulting quiz aimed to enhance knowledge of management consulting concepts, test problem-solving skills, foster teamwork, and create a fun learning experience. It also aimed to inspire interest in consulting careers, promoting an understanding of the role of consultants in helping organizations improve their performance.
3. On October 5, 2024, the SAMSOE Consulting Club organized a speaker session featuring Mr. P.D. Singh, former CEO (Corporate Banking) at JP Morgan Chase Bank. The event aimed to provide career insights and practical knowledge in financial consulting. Over 70 students attended the session, which was led by faculty mentor Dr. Pallavi Gupta. Mr. Singh shared his professional journey, discussed key aspects of financial consulting, and highlighted essential industry skills. The session included an interactive Q&A, offering students valuable advice on navigating the consulting field. It concluded with a vote of thanks and feedback collection.
The cricket trials for selecting SAMSOE’s Cricket team took place on 1st September 2024, at All India Balkan-Ji-Bari, Santacruz West. Around 40 players across SAMSOE turned up and showcased their cricketing skills. Batters were provided with 12 balls to showcase their temperament and technique compiled of stroke play and power hitting. Bowlers, too, were given 12 balls to display their command on line, length, variations and accuracy. A host of exciting players were cited as it was a very difficult task to select the 16 best players out of them. Overall, the trial went on smoothly and was a success.
The football trials for selecting SAMSOE’s Football team took place on 3rd September 2024 at Aim Turf – Nanavati women’s college, LIC Colony, Vile Parle (West). The event brought students from FY, SY and TY together to battle out for a spot in the football team. Organized by the SAMSOE Sports Club, the event included warm-ups, skill drills, matches, showcasing the footballing spirit of the players. The selection was on the basis of their skill, athleticism, and sportsmanship, earning them a place in the SAMSOE Football Team.
The football trials for selecting SAMSOE’s Football team took place on 29th September 2024, at All India Balkanji Bari Sports Complex. To identify and recruit talented basketball players from all undergraduate batches (FYs, SYs, and TYs) for the college basketball team to represent in inter-collegiate tournaments. Undergraduates attended the trials. The trials comprised of multiple drills to test the skills of the players. Trials for both girls and boys were conducted simultaneously. This was then followed by 3v3 half court matches. To conclude the selections, 5v5 full court matches were played, to decide who would make it to the team.
The SAMSOE Football Tournament took place on 6th October 2024, at All India Balkan-ji-Bari, Santacruz West. The tournament saw participation from over 80 participants across the college. The 12 teams that participated battled out to make it out of the group stage. The top 2 teams from 4 formed groups advanced to the knockout stage. The finals were played on a rain drenched turf which added to the drama of the decisive match.
The carrom tournament took place on 15th October 2024, at SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. A total of 32 participants competed in this tournament, organized into 16 teams, each consisting of 2 players. The competition followed a round-robin format, with teams divided into 4 groups of 4. From each group, the top 2 teams advanced to the knockout stage. The tournament then progressed to the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals, and culminated in the finals, all conducted in a single-elimination format. This structure ensured a competitive and engaging experience for all participants. Ram Kotian and Kaishik Chaudhary from TY-A emerged victorious, with Ayati Singh and Shaurya Singh from FY-B securing 2nd place
SAMSOE Sports Club hosted an engaging Darts tournament as part of Sports Week, on 16th October, 2024 promoting healthy competition among participants from all undergraduate batches (FYs, SYs, and TYs). The participants were randomly paired against each other across all the rounds. The winners were determined by the top ranked players at the end of each round. The winners of the tournament were:

SAMSOE Sports Club hosted an engaging E-Sports tournament as part of Sports Week, on 17th October, 2024 promoting healthy competition and encouraging participation among students from all undergraduate batches (FYs, SYs, and TYs). Each class was represented by two teams, who then competed in multiple rounds to showcase their gaming skills. The structure was designed to progressively challenge the participants, starting with initial elimination rounds, followed by a semi-final round, and culminating in an intense final match. The event was an intra-collegiate table tennis tournament featuring both singles and doubles categories. The tournament began with a direct elimination format in the first round. This was followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the finals, which determined the winners. The singles and doubles matches were conducted simultaneously, fostering an atmosphere of excitement and sportsmanship.

SAMSOE Sports club hosted Kho-Kho on 20th October, 2024. The event was conducted to reignite sporting culture among the students and to interest students in sport activities. This competition would facilitate the undergraduate students to enjoy team spirit and develop skills in healthy competition. The tournament was in tensely competitive, highlighting impressive skill and determination. In the end, Team SYA claimed victory, displaying outstanding teamwork and resilience. Team SYB secured second place, showcasing remarkable effort and perseverance. Overall, the tournament was a resounding success.
