EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 2025 - 26

The 15th edition of Shastrarth, the flagship annual debate festival of SVKM’s NMIMS Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (SAMSOE), was held on 27th September 2025. Organised by the undergraduate division, the intercollegiate event drew participants from across India for a day of rigorous exchange and spirited debates. The competition featured three rounds—Preliminaries, Semi-finals, and Finals—adopting the Modified Oxford and Lincoln-Douglas formats. A distinguished panel of judges representing diverse fields such as media, finance, education, sustainability, and entrepreneurship ensured engaging and fair discussions throughout. Motions ranged across economics, politics, philosophy, and contemporary affairs, inspiring participants to think critically and articulate nuanced perspectives.

Following a challenging series of debates, Aadi Sardesai and Tuvya Koyande from FLAME University, Pune were declared the winners, while Joshua Furtado and Niyati Rani from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai secured the position of runners-up. The finals, centred on the motion "This House Believes that ‘that’ which outlives its intention loses its value,” demonstrated remarkable clarity and depth in argumentation. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and closing remarks from the judges, and faculty in charge Dr. Esha Khanna and Dr. Niladri Bagchi, and our Director Prof.  Amita Vaidya, who praised the students’ commitment and professionalism. Carefully planned and executed, Shastrarth 2025 served as a testament to SAMSOE’s dedication to promoting critical thinking, eloquence, and academic excellence.

On 30th August, 2025 students of Samvedna celebrated the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi with underprivileged children and cultivating cultural awareness through the art of sculpting. They contacted Salaam Balak Trust, located in Andheri East, who helped us gather a large group of children to whom we could teach how to sculpt an idol of Lord Ganesha. Our team provided the children with everything needed to sculpt the idol, from the clay that would take the form of Lord Ganesha, to the cardboard that would serve as the base of the idol. We showered them with kindness and guidance while they welcomed us wholeheartedly. All children actively participated in the sculpting, resulting in the creation of beautiful idols of Lord Ganesha. The program was 1.5 hours long and the children were overjoyed to either learn how to sculpt or show their existing skills off. They were also thrilled to receive chocolate at the end of the program
