Farewell for T.Y.B. Sc. Economics students:
On April 10, 2014 the second year and first year students gave a fond farewell to the T.Y. students, the second batch of students passing out of the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics.
Mr. Shalin Divatia, Hon. Joint Secretary SVKM and Mentor of the School wished the students well and said that Economics will always stand them in good stead in whatever they do.
Prof. Amita Vaidya the Associate Dean exhorted the students to uphold the values of NMIMS and SAMSOE and to give of their best in whatever they do.
It was followed by a short program hosted by the students.
Annual Cultural Day 2014
The Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics hosted its Second Annual Cultural Day on the 25th of March, 2014. New, innovative ideas, days of rehearsals and a lot of hard work went into making the show a success. The show was a chance for the students to showcase their talents. The program had a variety of performances. There were dances which ranged from the classical Bharat Natyam dance to Bollywood and Street Jazz. A medley of Hindi and western songs were rendered beautifully accompanied by the organ and the guitar. A modern satirical version of the classic ‘Julius Caesar’ was also staged by the students. The Associate Dean delivered the concluding address and praised the students for the good show they had put up.
Fury Futsal Inter collegiate Football competition
Fury Futsal inter-collegiate football competition organized by SAM-SOE was held at Jamnabai Narsee School grounds on February 27, 2014.
Championship trophy won by Ritambhara College and runners up was Jai Hind College
Movie Club
Various movies were screened by the movie club which were a mix of classics and contemporary cinema.

Kaching 2013 – The Sound of Success!
The 4th edition of SAMSOE’s very own Economics festival was held this year on the 13th and 14th of December. Mr. M.V Tanksale, Chief Executive Officer of Indian Bank’s Association and former CMD of Central Bank of India, inaugurated the festival.
This 2 day bonanza saw a total of 12 events – a first in Ka-ching history – ranging from a mock stock, business quiz, mock IPL auction, etc. New and innovative events were added this year such as "Kaun Banega Pradhan Mantri”, a policy making event, "Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar”, an economics journalism event, and "Optimus Maximus”, a portfolio optimization board game.
Participation was in huge numbers for the flagship events "Bull Run” and "Ka-PL” with over 50 teams!
Ka-ching saw participation from over 15 colleges all across Mumbai such as Jaihind, K.C. College, HR College, and NMIMS’ SBM, NM College etc. The winning college was NM College and the First runner up was HR College.
The festival was sponsored by Syndicate Bank and the associate sponsor was Bank of Baroda.
Scroll of Thoughts SAMSOE Newsletter
The Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics inaugurated its second issue of the college newsletter ‘Scroll of Thoughts’ for the academic year 2013-14 on the 13th December. The editorial was a tribute to Nelson Mandela, the greatest anti-apartheid revolutionary, South Africa’s first black President and his ideology on freedom and courage.
It was launched on the inaugural function of "Ka- Ching’ (the school’s annual intercollegiate economics festival), by the chief guest , Mr. Tanksale chairperson of IBA along with NMIMS’ Vice Chancellor Dr. Saxena, and Hon. Joint Secretary of SVKM, Mr. Divatia and SAMSOE’s Associate Dean Prof. Amita Vaidya.
It had a brief description of ‘Ka-Ching 2013’ and the events in the festival. It also highlighted SAMSOE’S achievement at the inter-collegiate festival, ‘Vayu’, in which the school got the Second Prize.
The Prize winning articles on the ‘Coal Gate Scam’ from the Journalism event (Ex –Pres) were published. The prize winning photographs from the event ‘Illustration photography’ were also published to give the reader a glimpse of the photographer’s perception of the world as captured by the camera.
The ‘Discussion forum’ gave a platform to students to express their hopes and expectations of the 16th upcoming general elections in India. It also had articles on the diversity that defines India and its people

Scroll of Thoughts
The month of September saw SAMSOE launch its college newsletter the ‘Scroll of Thoughts’, at the Annual Inter Collegiate Debate ‘Shastrarth’. With a brand new and enthusiastic editorial team it covered the issues shaping Indian as well as international economic environments and the buzz around college. The budding economists with their thinking caps in place, expressed their views on the tumbling rupee and discussed the future of Egypt.
The newsletter welcomed the fourth batch of SAMSOE, giving them useful insights into the new world, they were about to venture into. An essential list of Dos and Don’ts coupled with a SAMSOE poll about activities in college, was served to the newbies. The ‘Scroll of Thoughts’ is all set to plunge into old seas with new sails set perfectly, ready to surge ahead .
