The Fourth Annual Economics Conference organized by Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (SAMSOE), NMIMS, Mumbai in collaboration with The Indian Econometric Society (TIES) was held on 7th March, 2020. The theme for this year was ‘Sustainability, Equity and Development.’ Dr. Leandro M De Magalhaes, Lecturer, University of Bristol, U.K. delivered the Keynote address on "Inequality, Progressivity, and Growth” followed by Dr. R. Ramakumar, NABARD Chair Professor, TISS, Mumbai delivering the Chairperson’s address on "Rural and Agricultural Economics: Heterodox Perspectives”. Dr. Bipin K. Deokar, Sr. Deputy Director, EPWRF was the invited guest who chaired the technical sessions and adjudicated the paper presenters.
A total of 40 papers were received and 13 selected papers were presented during the conference (9) and research colloquium (4). Ms. Anu Abraham, Assistant Professor, SAMSOE, NMIMS, Mumbai won the Best Paper Award and a cash prize of Rs. 7000 for the conference presentation. The paper authored by Ms. Vaishnavi Kanukurti, Christ University, Bengaluru was adjudged as the best paper of the research colloquium which carried a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 5000.
Consultancy Service at Centre for Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact Assessment (CMEIA) Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD). Dr. Mohd. Imran Khan has been engaged as Data Analyst to generate data pertaining to adolescents in the state of Tamil Nadu from December 2019 to January 2020
Talk on Research Paper for F.Y.M. Sc.
Ms. Rajani Sinha,Senior Economist and Vice President at Aditya Birla gave a talk on Economic Research for non-academic purposes to F.Y. M. Sc. students as a part of their Research Paper on 17th August 2019.
Research Study on issues of social relevance
A Research study was undertaken as part of the ‘Research Methods’ and ‘Research Writing’ courses for S.Y. B. Sc. Economics students in Collaboration with the NGO PRAJA.
The topic was ‘Electoral behaviour among youth’.The students will prepare a questionnaire and undertake data collection on the topic. The final report will be submitted to PRAJA.

The programme consisted of an inaugural session at Santokba Hall. Students were addressed by the Vice- Chancellor, Dr. Rajan Saxena, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Subhajyoti Ray. Associate Dean Prof. Amita Vaidya, gave the students as well as the parents an insight into the working of the School of Economics. The Second Year B. Sc. Economics students also shared their experiences at the School with the F.Y. B. Sc. Economics students. It was followed by an interactive session of the parents and the students with the faculty.
