On 20th July 2024, the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics in collaboration with the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) at NMIMS Mumbai hosted an engaging event focused on start up innovation and entrepreneurship. The event, held in the Mini Auditorium at NMIMS Mumbai, featured expert talks and a panel discussion with prominent speakers and start up founders and entrepreneurs.

10:00 AM – 10:03 AM: Felicitation of Guests
The event commenced with a brief felicitation ceremony for the distinguished guests.
10:03 AM – 10:10 AM: Inaugural Speech
Dr. Jagannath Sahoo, Dean SPPSPTM and President of Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) NMIMS Mumbai, delivered the inaugural speech, setting the tone for the event and highlighting the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in today’s economy.
10:10 AM – 10:50 AM: Expert Talk on ‘IP Creation, Protection, and Leveraging’
Prof. B. Koteswararao Naik, Chair of the Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship at IIM Mumbai, shared his insights on intellectual property (IP) creation, its protection, and how start ups can leverage IP to gain a competitive edge. He explained the distinction among invention, innovation and entrepreneurship with interesting examples.
10:50 AM – 11:30 AM: Expert Talk on ‘Low-Income Women Digitisation & Entrepreneurship’
Prof. Lina Sonne from Vyas Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship, IIT Bombay, addressed the crucial topic of the role of digitization in the entrepreneurship among low-income women, discussing challenges and opportunities in empowering this demographic through digital means. She presented interesting insights from her research with different group of women entrepreneurs at multiple tier two cities in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh in India.
11:30 AM – 11:40 AM: Tea Break
Attendees took a short break, allowing for networking and informal discussions.
11:40 AM – 12:30 PM: Panel Discussion on ‘Start Up and Entrepreneurship’
A dynamic panel discussion featured:
The panellists shared their entrepreneurial journeys, discussed the start up ecosystem, and provided valuable advice to aspiring entrepreneurs. Dr. Nazmul shared his inspirational journey of how he started his own firm Medinaz Academy leaving a comfortable and secure government job of a doctor. Mr. Sanket and Mr. Krishnakanth shared their interesting insights especially for food start ups as both of them operate their start ups in the food space.
12:30 PM – 1:00 PM: Q & A Session
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where the audience had the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers and panellists, fostering a deeper understanding of the topics discussed.
