  • Eminent Lecture Series
  • Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics has initiated a wonderful concept of ‘Eminent Lecture Series’ from the academic year 2019-2020. The idea behind the lecture series is to give the students and faculty, an opportunity to interact with eminent personalities from different walks of life and thereby provide students not only with different perspectives, but also with potential resources that they can apply in future courses. First keynote speaker of this lecture series was Dr. Subramanian Swamy, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha who spoke on ‘GDP methodology and the 5 Trillion Economy’ on 26th February, 2020.

  • Outbound activity
  • On February 06, 2020 students of T.Y. B.Sc. accompanied by faculty members went to Durshet Nature Trails located in Khopoli as an extension of outdoor classroom activity. This is a 35-acre natural forest with extensive teak trails set against the Sahyadri range with the river Amba adjacent to the property. More than 58 students of the T.Y. B.Sc. participated in various fun-filled adventure activities such as Zip Line, Burma Bridge, Tarzan Swing, Ladder, Archery, Net Climbing etc. These activities required them to collaborate and cooperate with each other. These activities enabled students to better understand how good leadership skills and being a team player can lead to superior team outcomes along with individual success.

  • Ka – Ching 2020
  • The annual Economics and Management Fest Ka – Ching was held from 27th January to 29th January, 2020. The inaugural function was held on January 27th 2020. Ms. Ridhima Pandey - Climate activist, who had presented at the United Nations Climate Action Summit was the keynote speaker.

    As a part of festival there was the Economic Justice Conclave (EJCON) on the topic "Combating the Existential Threats of Climate Change in India – A Pathway toward Sustainable Development”. A National Policy Challenge was organized, wherein students from all over the country competed and came up with a joint student driven policy solution on climate change. Across the three days of the conclave; panel discussions, debates and town hall sessions were held wherein the youth got a chance to learn from the knowledge and experience of eminent personalities and leaders. The chief guest for the town hall session was Ms. Neelima Kota, Author, researcher, artist and political commentator. Participation was from across 11 states and from UK and USA.

    N. M. College of Commerce and Economics were the winners for Economic Justice Conclave (EJCON) and Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics won second prize.

    There were 14 competitive events held and had participation from colleges across India. H.R. College of Commerce and Economics received the winner’s trophy, Jai Hind College was the first Runner’s up and Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics was 2nd Runner’s up.

  • Workshop on ‘Finance GYM’
  • Workshop on ‘Finance GYM’ as a part of the Financial Literacy Programme was conducted by Prof. Binal Gandhi on 9th and 10thDecember 2019 for the S.Y. B. Sc. students.

    Topics covered include

    1. How do you decide asset allocation?

    2. Why invest in mutual funds?

    3. How many stocks should you own for a diversified portfolio?

    4. Are SIPs always better than lump sums?

    5. What are ETFs?

    6. How do debt funds compare with bank fixed deposits?

    7. Why is insurance important?

     

  • Shastrarth- 2019 an Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition
  • "Debate and Divergence can only enrich our honesty and culture”. Shastrarth 2019 proved to be a perfect prototype of a platform that provided the participants with an opportunity to put their speaking, articulating and listening skills to a rigorous test. Conducted on 28th September 2019, the inter collegiate debate fest of Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics achieved greater heights in its eighth edition.
    There were three rounds in Shastrarth: Preliminary, Semi-Finals and Finals.
    Total 51 teams competed in the prelims, out of which 12 teams got qualified for semi-finals and two teams were selected for Finals.
    Winning team: Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics
    First Runner up team: Praveen Gandhi College of Law
    Best speaker: Muskaan Sofet (Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics)
    The success of Shastrarth lies in the indomitable spirit of the committee members. The team worked hard for more than two months to make it a bigger event. Not to forget the enthusiastic participants who displayed commendable debating skills and finally the college administration who backed the students at every stage.
    It was a joint effort of the conveners, co-conveners, department heads and other team members who worked tirelessly for Shastrarth’19.

  • Nominee - Commonwealth Futures student leadership workshops
  • Muskaan Sofet from T.Y B. Sc. Economics has been nominated for Commonwealth Futures student leadership workshops through NMIMS university.

  • Visit to RBI Monetary Museum
  • Students of S.Y. B. Sc. Economics visited to RBI Monetary Museum on 18th October 2019.

  • Students of SAMSOE attended an informative session on International Internship Opportunities for NMIMS Students organized by International Linkages department in collaboration with the Academic Internship Council (AIC) on 11th October 2019.

  • Students of SAMSOE attended an informative session conducted by Dr. Pratibha Jain, Head of Eduabroad Consulting on Summer Schools in the US, Europe, Canada and more held on 5th October 2019.

     

  • Informative session summer Research Internship at International Universities
  • Students of SAMSOE attended an extremely useful session on summer Research Internship at International Universities arranged by International Linkages department on 27th September 2019. Samyak Jhaveri (third-year computer engineering student at MPSTME) shared his experience which includes preparing a resume, search for Universities, contact / approach the professors, prepare for VISA and more.

     

  • Informative session for Summer Schools: UC Berkeley, Columbia University and others
  • Students of SAMSOE attended an informative session for Summer schools on 11th September 2019 organized by International Linkages department. The session was conducted by Association of University Summer Sessions (AUSS) which includes universities like include UC Berkeley, Columbia University, University of Massachusetts Amherst and the George Washington University.

     

  • Informative session University of Wollongong
  • Students of F.Y. B. Sc. and S.Y. B. Sc. attended an insightful session for the University of Wollongong conducted by International Linkages department on 10th September 2019. The session was addressed by Prof. Charles Areni, Executive Dean and Dr Venkata Yanamandram, Director Assurance of Learning and Senior Lecturer on opportunities for NMIMS students to study at the University of Wollongong after signing MOU with NMIMS University.

     

  • Interactive session with China delegation
  • Students of S.Y. B. Sc. attended an interactive session with Mr. Tang Guocai, Consul General of the People's Republic of China on 6th September 2019. The topic was ‘The facts, reason and implications of the trade frictions between the US and China and what China and India should do in the economic and trade fields against this backdrop’

  • University of Bristol Informative Session
  • Students of S.Y.B. Sc. and T.Y. B. Sc. attended an informative session for the University of Bristol conducted by International Linkages department on 30thAugust 2019.

    Dr Hugh Brady, President & Vice Chancellor Bristol University guided the students about studying at the UniversityofBristol and living in the UK.

  • 15th Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture
  • Students of SAMSOE attended 15th Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture on 28th August 2019 organized by The Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) at Y.B. Chavan Centre,Nariman Point, Mumbai. The topic was Maharashtra’s March towards a $1 Trillion Economy
